Seven spots will be up for grabs when the qualification tournament for Iran’s freestyle wrestling team takes place on November 5.
Winners of each weight class will secure a place in the Iranian outfit for the upcoming World Wrestling Championship in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, on December 12-20.
On Monday, Iran’s head coach Gholamreza Mohammadi named the contenders who will take part in the qualifiers at Tehran’s Azadi Indoor Hall.
The 57kg contest will see Reza Atri, Alireza Sarlak, Rahman Amouzad, and Nader Hajaqania wrestling, while a single bout between Behnam Ehsanpour – a 2019 world bronze medalist – and Majid Dastan will decide Iran’s 61kg representative at the world championship.
Younes Emami, Amirhossein Hosseini, and Erfan Elahi will battle for the 70kg spot.
All eyes will be on the 86kg class, where the Iranian sensation Hassan Yazdani takes on the winner of the bout between Kamran Qassempour – world under-23 champion in 2019 – and Ahmad Bazri – an Asian silver medalist in 2020.
Mohammad-Javad Ebrahimi, Hossein Shahbazi, Mohammad-Hossein Mirbaghban, Hossein Jalalinejad, and Arashk Mohebbi will go head-to-head for the 92kg place.
The 2020 Asian champion Mojtaba Goleij will see competition from Mohammad-Hossein Mohammadian and Ali Sha’bani for the 97kg berth, while in the 125kg competition, Parviz Hadi, Yadollah Mohebbi, Amirhossein Zare’, Amin Taheri, and Abbas Foroutan will square off the heavyweight berth.
The 74kg place is to be decided through a competition at Iran’s training camp on October 29.
