Iran’s ‘Careless Crime’ actor to be honored at Italian festival

The 2020 edition of the International Festival of European and Mediterranean Cinema, known as MedFilm festival in Italy, is going to honor Iran’s ‘Careless Crime’ actor Babak Karimi for his lifetime cinematic achievements.

Karimi will be awarded the Special Lifetime Achievement Award at the 26th edition of the Italian festival for his role in the Iranian film, ‘Careless Crime,’ ifilmtv.com reported.

The Iranian actor and film editor is in Italy to receive the award at this Italian festival which will take place on November 4-13.

He will also attend a masterclass in collaboration with the Italian Institute for Oriental Studies of the Sapienza University on November 13.

According to the text written in honor of Karimi in the festival catalogue, he has been described as a connecting point among the Mediterranean cultures.

As a person who spent his childhood between Rome and Tehran, he has worked with great contemporary directors, such as Peter Greene, Gianni Amelio, Marco Bellucci, the Taviani brothers as well as renowned Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami.

Shahram Mokri’s ‘Careless Crime’, featuring Karimi, will also be screened at the competition program of the MedFilm event along with 11 other films.

From 2004 to 2007, Karimi was a consultant of the Venice Film Festival, particularly in selecting Iranian films for the festival.

He was also part of the Italy Prospects Jury at the 7th Rome Film Festival in 2012.
