Hamedan-Sanandaj railway to be operational by next summer: Minister
Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami (C) inaugurated the track-laying operations of Hamedan-Sanandaj railway in western province of Hamedan on November 2, 2020.

The executive operation of the Hamedan-Sanandaj railway, with a length of 150 km in western Iran started on Monday, said the minister of roads and urban development, adding that is expected to be operational by next summer.

Talking on the sidelines of the rail track-laying ceremony of the project, Mohammad Eslami said that seven projects are underway in the field of railways across the country, which will be finished by the end of the twelfth administration (August 2021), IRNA reported.

Pointing to President Hassan Rouhani’s emphasis on the development of the railway industry, he said: “According to the president’s promise to connect five provinces by rail, this was done during last Iranian year and these provinces were connected to the railway network.”

Eslami noted that the Hamedan-Sanandaj and Hamedan-Malayer railway projects are under construction to complete the railway network in western Iran in minimum time.

The minister stated that the amount of cargo transported by rail in the Iranian year ending March 19, compared to the previous year, shows an increase of 25 percent.

He added, “Connecting the railways to neighboring countries and expanding transit lines is very important for Iran.”

Eslami said the Khaf-Herat railway project will be finished by November 20, and the Iranian-Afghan railway will be used for the transit of goods in the region.
