Iran condemns Daesh terror attack on Kabul University

Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology condemned the “criminal” terrorist attack on Kabul University on Monday, which claimed the lives of students and professors.

In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry said that the terrorists’ attacks on educational centers show their enmity with science and knowledge, according to IRNA.

Iran’s Embassy in Afghanistan also in a statement on Monday strongly condemned the terrorist attack, saying that the repetition of such “inhumane acts” against Afghanistan's educational places is so dangerous.

The Daesh terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack on the university which hosted a book fair attended by the Iranian Ambassador to Afghanistan Bahador Aminian.

The attack sparked an hours-long gunbattle and left at least 22 dead and 22 wounded at the war-torn country’s largest university. Most of the casualties were students.

Several education centers in Afghanistan have been attacked over the years by extremist groups.

The Monday’s attack was the second attack on an educational institution in Kabul in as many weeks.

Last week two dozen people, mostly students, lost their lives as an educational center in western Kabul was targeted in an attack claimed by the Daesh terrorist group.

In 2018, a bomber killed dozens of people, many of them teenagers, in front of Kabul University in an attack also claimed by Daesh.
