Trump‏’‏s campaign files revised lawsuit after nearly two dozen arrests in post-‎election rallies ‎

Trump’s attorneys filed a revised version of the lawsuit, removing ‎allegations that election officials violated the Trump campaign’s constitutional ‎rights by limiting the ability of their observers to watch votes being counted, according to washingtonpost.com.

Trump and Rudolph W. Giuliani, his personal attorney, have said repeatedly that ‎more than 600,000 votes in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh should be invalidated ‎because of this issue.

Trump’s pared-down lawsuit now focuses on allegations that Republicans were ‎illegally disadvantaged because some Democratic-leaning counties allowed voters ‎to fix errors on their mail ballots. Counties have said this affected only a small ‎number of votes.

Cliff Levine, an attorney representing the Democratic Party in the case, said on ‎Sunday evening that Trump’s move meant his lawsuit could not possibly change ‎the result‎

In its revised lawsuit, the Trump campaign again asked US District Court Judge ‎Matthew Brann to block the certification of Pennsylvania’s election results. But a ‎secondary request to block the certification of all votes where observer access was ‎allegedly restricted was deleted in the amended suit.

The Trump campaign said late Sunday night that the revised version still contains ‎assertions about the lack of access for observers in an introductory section.

Currently, however, language alleging that the campaign’s constitutional rights ‎were violated as a result of the observer issue is no longer part of the suit detailing ‎the formal counts.

The shift comes amid a string of losses in the Trump campaign’s post-election legal ‎effort, which claimed without evidence that voter fraud, irregularities and rule-‎breaking led to Biden’s victory. The flurry of post-election litigation has affirmed ‎the integrity of the election: Many of the complaints have been tossed, and not a ‎single vote has been invalidated.

Earlier in the day, Trump suggested that his legal challenges of the election results ‎would continue.

‎“Many of the court cases being filed all over the Country are not ours, but rather ‎those of people that have seen horrible abuses,” he said in a tweet. “Our big cases ‎showing the unconstitutionality of the 2020 Election, & the outrage of things that ‎were done to change the outcome, will soon be filed!”

Pro-Trump protests

Among the arrestees during the protests were a person accused of setting off a commercial firework and four people accused in an assault that left the victim unconscious on the street, according to apnews.com.

The arrests came during and after protesters and counterdemonstrators clashed on Saturday in Northwest Washington. Several thousand people rallied during the day in support of Trump, whose motorcade briefly drove by the gathering protesters on Saturday morning on the way to the president’s Northern Virginia golf club.

Trump supporters marched from Freedom Plaza to the Supreme Court Building, across from the Capitol, during the day. Their activities and those of counterdemonstrators grew increasing tense and took a violent turn in the early evening. Videos posted to social media showed numerous incidents of shoving and punching as well as a fireworks explosion and a man shoving and knocking down one person before being shoved and punched unconscious himself by others.

A 26-year-old District of Columbia man was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon after discharging the firework at several people, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release on Sunday.

Police said in another statement that four people, all but one confirmed as District residents, were arrested on various charges related to a man being knocked unconscious by one person and then assaulted by the others.

Police also reported a stabbing victim was treated at a hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries. Four police officers were injured as they responded to the unrest, and eight firearms were recovered, the department said.

Police said at least 10 of those arrested were from the District of Columbia while others came from neighboring Maryland and Virginia. Some of those arrested were from New York, New Jersey, South Carolina and Georgia, police said, and more suspects were being sought as authorities reviewed surveillance footage.

Several other cities on Saturday saw gatherings of Trump supporters unwilling to accept Democrat Joe Biden’s Electoral College and popular vote victory as legitimate.
