Resistance International Film Festival pays tribute to Martyr Soleimani

The second part of the 16th Resistance International Film Festival (RIFF) opened on November 21 in Iran’s southeastern province of Kerman by paying tribute to Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

Several high-ranking Iranian cinematic officials and the festival organizers gathered together at the grave of Martyr Soleimani on Saturday.

In addition, “Resistance Prominent Martyr – Special Section” of the festival has been allocated to paying tribute to Martyr Soleimani.

According to, this section is mainly focused on portraying the sufferings of the oppressed people of the region, the resistance and popular victories, the issues of resistance, and the role of Gen. Soleimani in the awakening and enlightenment of the people in the region.

Filmmakers and writers will explain their works with three axes, which focus on the different dimensions of Martyr Soleimani’s personality, as a model of Islamic resistance and awakening, outlining the moral values and bravery of the martyrs of resistance.

The late Gen. Soleimani, who had a pivotal role in fighting against Daesh terrorists in Iraq and Syria, was assassinated on Jan. 3, 2020 by the US on the direct order of US President Donald Trump.

The festival is organized every year to observe the anniversary of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, which is called the Sacred Defense in Iran.

The first part of the festival was held from September 21 to 27, coinciding with the Sacred Defense Week, covering the section, “Health Defenders,” and the second part, from November 21 to 27, includes the sections, “Main Competition,” “Resistance Prominent Martyr – Special Section,” “Best Film Competition in Absolute Sense,” and “Narrations of the Pen – Scriptwriting Competition.”
