Iranian Volleyball Super League to resume after two-week hiatus

Sports Desk

The Iranian Volleyball Super League resumes in Tehran on Wednesday after a two-week break.

With the number of the coronavirus infections on the rise in the country, the league games are to be held in a centralized format in two venues – the Volleyball House and Iran Volleyball Federation’s Sports Hall.

Three rounds of fixtures will be played in a five-day period with a 14-day break before the next three rounds.

All eyes will be on the battle between the league leader Sepahan and second-placed Foolad Sirjan.

Behrouz Ataei’s Haraz Amol will take on Peyman Akbari’s Shahrdari Urmia.

The two head coaches were the leading candidates to take charge of Iran’s national team after former manager Igor Kolakovic parted ways with the Iranian federation last February.

Russia’s Vladimir Alekno was eventually named Iran’s head coach for next summer’s Olympics.

Fourth-placed Saipa will face bottom-side Paykan.
