Iranian horror film, ‘The Night,’ by Koroush Ahari, received three major awards from the 39th edition of the Molins de Rei Horror Film Festival in Spain, held October 31-November 22.

‘The Night’ is written by Kourosh Ahari and Milad Jarmooz. The cast include: Shahab Hosseini, George Maguire, Niousha Ja’farian, Armin Mehr, Golbarg Khavari, Ali Kousheshi, Leila Gorganian, and Michael Graham, IRNA reported.

Hosseini was selected for the Best Actor award at the Feature Films competition section of the Spanish event’s 39th edition.

Kourosh Ahari won the Best Director award and also the Best Script award, which he shared with Milad Jarmooz.

A suspenseful, psychological thriller, the film tells the story of an Iranian couple and their one-year-old daughter living in the US, ifilmtv.com wrote.

They become trapped inside an old hotel where insidious, supernatural forces cause them to face the secrets that have come between them in a night that terrifyingly never ends.

According to molinsfilmfestival.com, ‘La Llorona’ by Michael Chaves won the Best Film award of the Spanish event.

Established in 1973, the festival consists of a competitive Feature Films Official Sections, Being Different Feature Films Section, Short Films Official Section, Retrospectives, Documentaries, Live Shows, Workshops, Networking/Pitching, screenings for high-schools, screenings for children, and one of the oldest horror movie marathons in the world.

The Spanish festival is one of the oldest festivals dedicated solely to horror in Spain and in Europe. The festival is a member of the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation.

Hosseini dedicated his Chevalier of the Legion of Honor (Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur) medal which he received in March from French Ambassador Philippe Thiebaud at the Embassy of France in Tehran to the Iranian people.

Hosseini is most famous for his role in Asghar Farhadi’s ‘The Salesman,’ which brought him the Palme d’Or for Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016. He also starred in Farhadi’s other Oscar-winning drama, ‘A Separation’.
