Although she acknowledges that parents are free to name their children "whatever they want", she believes her sibling's choice of name crosses a line which would result in him — and the parents — being mocked, mirror.co.uk reported.
After suggesting a long list of alternative names, which were rejected, she finally came to clean to her sister to reveal she thought the name she had chosen for her son was a "massive mistake” — leaving her sibling furious.
The woman explained that her 19-year-old sister is eight months' pregnant, and a few weeks ago she had announced she was planning to name her little boy 'Paradox'.
She said at first she thought her sister was joking, before she insisted she was adamant and picked the name "purely because it sounds cool and it's unique".
Paradox is defined as 'a statement that seems self-contradictory or absurd but in reality expresses a possible truth', and her sister was desperate for her nephew not to be given the name.
She wrote: "Ever since then I've been texting her a bunch of names, hoping that she'll pick a different one. Yesterday she got super annoyed and asked me why I kept suggesting names when she already picked the name so I had to be honest and I told her that Paradox is not a real name and she and her son are gonna be mocked.
"I've genuinely been stressing out about it because I know she is making a massive mistake. Now she has blocked me on everything and is refusing to acknowledge my existence.
"I asked my mom what she thought and she agrees that the name is 'a little out there' but it's my sister's choice at the end of the day. I agree that people have the right to name their kid whatever they want but surely there is a line."
She asked if she was wrong to take a stand against the name on Reddit, and it divided opinion in the comments.
Some said she had done the right thing, as one replied to say: "If she were giving birth to one of the characters on The Matrix then it would be cool but she isn’t and it will sound silly.”
But others said she should have voiced her objection once and left it, arguing she was in the wrong for bombarding her sister with possible alternatives.
One commented: "The problem arises because you keep nagging about it. Your mom is right. It’s her choice at the end of the day. You said your piece. Now stop nagging, apologize, and be a good aunt."
And another added: "I work with kids, and I've heard way worse. Regardless, it is her choice, and you're absolutely insulting her intelligence and her parenting. You're not going to help the kid, she's just going dig in, and you'll lose the relationship."
