Iran’s ‘Shadegan’ wins at European documentary festival IDFA

Iranian short documentary ‘Shadegan’ received an award at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) in the Netherlands.

‘Shadegan’, directed by Ako Salemi, won the Award for Best Children’s Documentary at the Dutch festival, ifilmtv.com reported.

The 15-minute documentary is about a teenager whose livelihood depends on fishing in the Shadegan wetlands in Iran’s southern province of Khuzestan.

‘Shadegan’ has previously participated in the 2020 Visions du Réel Film Festival in Switzerland and the 2020 New Orleans Film Festival in the US.

The IDFA announced the winners of the competition programs during its 2020 awards ceremony which took place online on November 26.

The ceremony came while this year’s edition of the festival still has more days to run.

The IDFA began on November 16 and will run until December 6.
