Persepolis captain Seyyed Jalal Hosseini was on the score-sheet as the defending champion claimed an emphatic 3-0 victory over Shahr Khodro in the Persian Gulf Pro League on Monday – a second win for the Reds which lifted them to second in the table.
The veteran center-back headed home a Saeid Aqaei’s free-kick to break the deadlock for Yahya Golmohammadi’s men, who saw striker Arman Ramezani miss an empty net earlier in the half.
The scoreline stood the same until the closing stages of the encounter at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium before midfield duo Ahmad Nourollahi and Milad Sarlak finished off the Mashhad-based club.
Nourollahi fired in a Sarlak back pass in the penalty area in the 84th minute before the latter curled in the ball into the bottom-left corner from the edge of the box five minutes later.
Also on Monday, Amir Qalenoei’s Golgohar Sirjan maintained its fine form and beat Mashinsazi 1-0 in Tabriz to stay atop the table with the third victory in four.
Milad Zenderouh scored the sole goal of the game from the spot with eight minutes left from the normal time.
In Ahvaz, Javad Nekounam’s Foolad Khuzestan was held to a goalless draw at home against new comer Aluminium Arak to miss the chance to move up to third in the table before Esteghlal and Sepahan, both on six points, are in action on Tuesday.
The Tehran-based Blues play away to Paykan, while in Isfahan, Moharam Navidkia’s men host Saipa.
Elsewhere in the league on Tuesday, Nassaji Mazandaran takes on Naft Masjed Soleyman at home, with San’at Naft and Zob Ahan squaring off in Abadan.
