Officials from Iranian and Italian foreign ministries held political consultations over issues related to bilateral ties and the UN Security Council as well as regional and international developments.
The virtual meeting was held on Monday between Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi and Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Italy Elisabetta Belloni, IRNA reported.
Referring to the good relations between Iran and Italy in various political, economic and cultural fields, Araqchi stressed that there is more potential for promoting trade cooperation between the two countries.
The Italian official, for her part, referred to the age-old relations between Rome and Tehran, saying that her country wants to continue its bilateral relations and regional talks with Iran.
Iran’s deputy foreign minister also held a separate meeting with new Portuguese Ambassador to Iran Carlos Antonio Rico Da Costa Nos in Tehran.
During the meeting, Araqchi expressed hope that Portugal, which will assume the rotating presidency of the European Union in January 2021, would play an active role in diplomatic relations between Iran and Europe.
The Portuguese envoy, for his part, voiced his country's readiness for further expansion of relations with Iran.
