“The leading role of the US in the crimes against people of the region, particularly Yemenis, is obvious,” the Iranian envoy tweeted on Wednesday, Tasnim News Agency reported.
Irloo also said that the Saudi regime is just carrying out the American-Zionist policies and following their orders by imposing a blockade on Yemen and committing acts of aggression against Yemenis.
The United States Treasury Department on Tuesday added the names of Iran’s ambassador to Yemen and Al-Mustafa International University to the list of its sanctions.
Last month, Irloo submitted his credentials to Yemeni officials amid the United States’ ire at the progressive course of the two countries’ relations.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a recent report that the ongoing Saudi-led war against Yemen has claimed 233,000 lives over the past six years.
Yemen has reached a critical point and there is an urgent need for a cease-fire now, the OCHA said.
Saudi Arabia and a coalition of its vassal states launched the war on Yemen in March 2015 in an attempt to reinstall a Riyadh-backed former regime.
The Saudi military aggression, coupled with a naval blockade has plunged Yemen into what the UN says the world's worst humanitarian crisis.
