Iran’s Cinema Verite announces winners

The 14th edition of Iran International Documentary Film Festival known as “Cinema Verite” on Wednesday announced winners of various sections of the event, held in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

In the National Competition Section, the best short documentary directing award went to Ali Assadi and Rasoul Davari for ‘Brother from the Barrens, while best semi-length documentary directing award went to Mahdi Zamanpour Kiasari for ‘Kal Fatemeh.’ Also the award for best feature-length documentaries directing went to Atiyeh Zare Arandi for ‘Fill in the Blanks,’ IRNA reported.

Mehrdad Sheikhan won the best researcher award for the ‘Iranian Animation’.

The best cameraman award went to Davoud Rahmani for ‘Kal Fatemeh’ while Arash Qasemi won the best sound award for ‘Dry Pond Dragonfly.’

Mostafa Gandomkar and Sogol Moradi won the best edit award for ‘Houbara’ while the best narration writing award went to Amir Masoud Hosseini for ‘Taher’ and its narrator Siamak Safari.

The best music award went to Kiavosh Saheb Nasaq for ‘Last Breathes’, and Atiyeh Zareh Avandi received the best Producer award for ‘Fill in the Blanks.’

The special award of jury boards went to Mohsen Khan Jahani for ‘On the Ground.’

In the Avini Award Section, Mahdi Shah Mohammadi was honored by the Golden trophy of Martyr Avini, diploma of honor, and a cash prize of 220 million Rials for directing the ‘Eighteen Thousand Feet.’

The Silver trophy of Martyr Avini, diploma of honor, and a cash prize of 200 million Rials went to Hassan Jafari director of the ‘Immigrant Swallows,’ and Ali Mohammad Zolfaghari received Bronze trophy of Martyr Avini, diploma of honor, and a cash prize of 180 million Rials for directing the ‘Ramadi Report.’

Moreover, the Special Jury Awards went to ‘Fish Island’ by Reza Azamian and ‘Japanese Mohsen’ by Vahid Faraji.

Also the Special Jury Award of Iran's Martyred Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani went to Sasan Falahfar for the ‘Iranian Eye.’

In the Entrepreneurship Documentary Section, Katayoun Jahangiri received the third prize for ‘It Is Raining under This Umbrella,’ while Second Prize went to Farshad Ektebashi for ‘F-A.’

The First Prize went to Asqar Qandzchi and Mostafa Razaq Karimi for ‘The Unfinished Way.’

The jury board also awarded Sohrab Nourbakhsh for ‘Little Creators.’

As for the Coronavirus Special Section, the Third Prize went to Javad Yaqmouri and Mahdi Amini for ‘Impass,’ and the Second Prize went to "The 19th Block" by Masoud Dehnavi.

Majid Sheida won the First Prize of the Coronavirus Special Section for ‘Pesgholeh.’

The jury board also awarded "There is Dawn" by Mohsen Jahani, Hashem Masoudi.

Iran’s 14th Cinema Verite was organized by the Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC) which is the largest center for production, distribution and promotion of documentary, animated and experimental pictures in the Middle East.

Iran's Cinema Verite, or Iran International Documentary Film Festival, aims, among other objectives, to promote creative documentary and reinforce the link between documentary cinema and social facts and events.
