Tehran archrivals Persepolis and Esteghlal will square off in the Persian Gulf Pro League on January 11, the League Organization of Iran Football Federation announced on Sunday.

The two sides were to play last Friday but the game was rescheduled as Yahya Golmohammadi’s side, which played to a 1-1 draw against Nassaji Mazandaran on the same day, will have to play two postponed matches before the Tehran derby.

The Iranian Reds’ fixture against Zob Ahan on Dec. 12 was called off after several players of the Isfahan-based club tested positive for COVID-19 and is now set to be staged on Thursday.

Persepolis’ Dec. 18 home game against Sepahan was also suspended as the Reds were in Qatar to play the AFC Champions League final against South Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai – a game they lost 2-1.

Persepolis will play Moharam Navidkia’s side on January 5.

Esteghlal, meanwhile, will visit league leader Golgohar Sirjan on Wednesday before a home tie against Aluminium Arak on January 4.

Mahmoud Fekri’s Blues are fourth in the table with 12 points, two adrift of Golgohar with a game in hand, while Persepolis is 10th, trailing the top by five points.

The last time the Tehran-based giants met was at the Hazfi Cup (Iranian domestic cup competition) semifinals in August, where Esteghlal came out victorious in the shootout after a 2-2 draw.
