Iran to hold first int’l exhibition, conference on calligraphy along Silk Road countries

The event will be held from January 20 to 23, IRNA reported.

Secretary of Iranian National Commission for UNESCO Hojjatollah Ayoubi said, “Iran is the cradle of great arts, especially the arts that are related to books.”

The Pen Dance Exhibition and Scientific Conference is an attempt to connect the calligraphers of the world. In this great conference, calligraphers of ancient civilizations come together to show the glory of art. Simultaneously with the exhibition, thinkers and artists who are experts in calligraphy around the world will tell about the latest developments in this important art in their homelands. UNESCO considers its most significant goal to be drying up the roots of war in the human mind. Artists from these disciplines, from Africa, Asia, from the West and the East, will peacefully remove people’s minds from the dust of violence and war by dancing with their writings, Ayoubi said.

Last year, with the efforts of the people and managers of the Hamedan section, the Iranian commission hosted the sixth meeting of the Coordinating Committee of the Serial Transnational World Heritage of the Silk Road, in which the idea of the spiritual heritage of the Silk Road was raised and was very much welcomed.

He added, “The calligraphy exhibition that was held on the sidelines of this meeting drew the attention of member states to this sublime art, because one of the commonalities of these states is the art of calligraphy.”

The first place to host this event will be Iran’s northeastern city of Mashhad, he added.

In addition to Mashhad, several buildings in Tehran and other cities will display video mapping for this event.

The UNESCO official said that the enthusiasm of world calligraphers for attending the event has been beyond the expectations of its sponsor.
