Persepolis and Sepahan settled for a goalless draw in the Persian Gulf Pro League at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.

In a first half of few chances Sepahan striker Kiros Stanlley went close to break the deadlock, only to his low effort go just wide.

Persepolis midfielder Ehsan Pahlevan could have got on the scoresheet twice but was denied by keeper Payam Niazmand on both occasions.

With four minutes from normal time, Reds keeper made a heroic double save – with a help from the post – to keep out efforts by Sajjad Shahbaz-Zadeh and Mohammad Mohebbi.

The draw leaves Persepolis 10th in the table with 11 points, seven adrift of leader Esteghlal with two games in hand, while Sepahan sits fifth with 15 points.

Also on Wednesday, a Mohammad Abbas-Zadeh double sealed a 2-1 victory for Tractor at Zob Ahan.

The striker took a neat pass from skipper Masoud Shojaei – who’s also Tractor’s caretaker manager – before his left-footed low effort found the bottom-right corner in the 25th minute.

Ivan Marković headed home the equalizer for Zob Ahan in the 79th minute, but it took Abbas-Zadeh only three minutes to restore the visitor’s lead.

Akbar Imani’s strike was blocked by Zob Ahan keeper Shahab Gordan but Abbas-Zadeh was alert to get his second of the game.

In Tehran, second-half goals from Ebrahim Salehi and Farzad Hatami saw Paykan bounce back to cancel out a seventh-minute opener by Karim Eslami for Nassaji Mazandaran as the home side won 2-1.
