Iran voices readiness to help quake-hit Indonesia

Islamic Republic of Iran Red Crescent Society (IRSC) announced readiness to render assistance to the victims of a 6.2-Richter earthquake that hit Sulawesi Island in Indonesia early Friday morning.

Head of IRSC Karim Hemmati, in a message to his Indonesian counterpart on Friday, voiced complete readiness of Iran’s Red Crescent Society to carry out joint relief and rescue operations with the Indonesian Red Crescent Society, IRNA reported.

Expressing sympathy and solidarity with those affected by the deadly quake, the Iranian official said providing necessary humanitarian services to the people who need them while they are struggling with the tough conditions of COVID-19 pandemic is valuable.

He stressed that Iran is “always by your side.”

The western coast of Sulawesi Island was hit by a 6.2-magnitude earthquake that at least killed 67 people and destroyed houses, flattening a hospital and setting off landslides, said latest reports coming from Indonesia.
