COVID-19 claims 96 lives in Iran over 24 hours

The coronavirus pandemic caused 96 more deaths in Iran from Friday to Saturday, mounting the total national death toll to 56,717, Iran's Health Ministry spokeswoman said.

According to Sima Sadar Lari, the total number of people testing positive for the respiratory disease reached 1,324,395 detecting 6,100 new cases over the past 24 hours, IRNA reported.

Lari added that out of the total 6,100 new positive cases, 508 patients have been hospitalized.

She added, out of the total infected cases, 1,113,224 patients have either recovered or been discharged so far from hospitals nationwide.

Lari further underlined that 4,393 COVID-19 patients are in critical conditions and under treatment in intensive care units of the hospitals.

She said over 8.47 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

Since its outbreak, the COVID-19 pandemic has killed over 2,000,000 people across the world.
