Middle East largest refinery to be officially open in SW Iran

Khuzestan Bid Boland gas refinery will be officially open in Southwest Iran on Thursday as the largest gas refinery in the Middle East and West Asia.

According to the gas refinery CEO, it has been constructed by Iranian experts despite US illegal sanctions against the country, Mehr News Agency reported.

Mahmoud Aminnejad said that the refinery, built in 36 months with an over three-billion-dollar budget, is a symbol of Iran's power.

Aminnejad added that the refinery is capable of producing two billion cubic feet of gas per day after becoming operational.

He further said more than one thousand kilometers of pipelines have been constructed for the project which is currently the third top project of its kind in the world.

Reaching its full capacity in the near future, the project is expected to bring the country $700 million in revenues every year, Shana said in a previous report.

Bid Boland refinery project was recently nominated for the International Project Management Association’s (IPMA) Global Project Excellence Award in the energy sector.

The refinery was also awarded the country’s top megaproject by the Ninth National Project Management Award.

Located in Behbahan, in southwestern Khuzestan Province, the Bid Boland refinery will have an annual production capacity of 10.4 million tons of methane, 1.5 million tons of ethane, one million tons of propane, 600,000 tons of gas condensate, and 500,000 tons of butane.

With the complete implementation of the project, the production capacity of sweet and other gases will increase, which will be used to feed petrochemical plants in Mahshahr and supply urban areas in the region.
