Domestic oil sector is in need of support by technology-based firms, said Iran's parliament speaker.

Speaking on the sidelines of his visit to the 25th Iran International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition (January 22-25) on Saturday, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf added the slogan of “We can” must be the deep-seated belief of the domestic oil industry, Shana reported.

He expressed satisfaction with his visit to the expo, saying, “I am delighted and proud to have visited an exhibition of domestic products and the creativity of Iranian firms and experts who have brought about a fundamental transformation in the country’s oil industry.”

Qalibaf said such moves (supporting the domestic production) must have been made in the past decades as these needs were felt in the oil industry in recent years.

The Parliament speaker expressed hope that the implementation of such measures would accelerate.

He said as stressed by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the oil sector is the main propeller of the country’s industry.

Qalibaf added, “We need to be more dynamic and active in obtaining finances in the oil sector and attracting investments to the industry. In addition, we are required to provide domestic technology-based firms with greater support and expand the oil industry’s cooperation with universities and the domestic private sector.”
