In an address to a press conference on the sidelines of 25th Iran International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition (January 22-25) on Saturday, Hassan Montazer-Torbati said, "Iran is a major producer of gas. Currently, the country's total gas production has reached about one billion cubic meters per day, equivalent to about six million barrels of oil per day, which is a significant figure," Shana reported.
He dismissed rumors concerning the reduction of production and pressure in the South Pars Gas Field in southern Iran, adding, "Gas consumption in the household sector has now reached more than 600 million cubic meters per day due to the cold weather and the sudden temperature drop. In the power plant sector, 100 to 130 million cubic meters of gas is consumed daily."
The official put the country’s current gas transfer capacity at 900 mcm, calling on people to lower their consumption.
Montazer-Torbati, who is also the deputy oil minister for gas affairs, noted that, Iran’s gas industry is highly reliant on domestic capabilities, adding all the items used in the distribution sector are manufactured domestically.
