Iran’s Health Ministry said 6,870 new cases tested positive for the virus from Tuesday to Wednesday, putting the total new cases at 1,438,286.
Speaking during a daily press conference, the ministry’s spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said that 79 people lost their lives during the same period, bringing the total death toll to 58,189.
New figures shows a slight increase in the number of new positive cases in the country despite tough restrictions imposed in the high-risk cities to stem the spread of the deadly virus.
Health Ministry has warned about the people’s negligence in observing the health protocols after the country managed to decrease the figures by imposing restrictions since November.
The ministry’s spokeswoman added that 1,229,391 patients have recovered or been discharged from hospitals across the country.
Lari also said that 3,838 COVID-19 patients are in critical conditions and under treatment in intensive care units of the hospitals.
