Iranian sportsman wins silver at World Para Athletics Grand Prix

Iranian athlete Saeed Afrouz has received a silver medal at the 2021 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Afrouz seized the medal at the Men’s Javelin F34 staying in the second place with a 34.98 meters throw, IRNA reported on Sunday.

Dubai hosted 2021 season-opening World Para Athletics Grand Prix participated by more than 470 athletes from 52 countries.

The event has kicked off on February 10 and is the 12th edition of the Fazza International Championships in UAE, which has been part of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix since the series was launched in 2013, paralympic.org reported.

On February 11, Iranian sportsman Saman Pakbaz received a silver medal at the competitions.

The thrower finished in second place in the Men's Shot Put - F12 with 14.96 meters.

The event, as the rest of the Grand Prix season, was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19.
