Iran’s daily COVID infections surpass 8,000

The number of Iranians testing positive for the coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours surpassed 8,000, the Health Ministry announced on Tuesday.

Speaking at a press conference on the same day, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman Sima Sadat-Lari said the total number of COVID-19 cases in Iran has exceeded 1,534,000 following the detection of 8,011 new cases since yesterday, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Of the new detected cases in the past 24 hours, 690 have been admitted to hospitals across the country, she added.

At least 1,310,821 patients have so far either recovered from the coronavirus infection or been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

She further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 59,117, saying the disease has taken the lives of 89 patients over the past 24 hours.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,696 coronavirus patients are in critical condition, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 10,161,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have so far been carried out in Iran.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 109 million, with the death toll exceeding 2.42 million.
