Judiciary official urges E3 to end ‘arbitrary’ detention of Iranians

The head of the Iranian Judiciary’s High Council for Human Rights, Ali Baqeri Kani, called on the three European parties to the 2015 nuclear deal to stop the arbitrary detention of Iranian citizens if they are truly concerned about human rights.

In a post on his Twitter account, Baqeri Kani deplored the European countries – France, the UK and Germany – for the fake expression of concern about human rights, Tasnim News Agency reported.

“Are European signatories of JCPOA concerned about human rights? Better they end the arbitrary detention of Iranian citizens accused of ‘legal act’ of ignoring the ‘illegal’ US sanctions,” the Iranian official tweeted.

He also named Sajjad Shahidian and Hamid Kiasati, two Iranian citizens who have been arrested in Europe on charges of violating the illegal US sanctions.

The three EU parties to the nuclear deal – known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) – have refused to honor their commitments to the deal after the US withdrew from the multilateral agreement in 2018 and reimposed sanctions which had been lifted under the deal.
