Iranian documentary ‘Asak’ to compete at two international festivals

Iranian documentary, ‘Asak,’ is slated to compete at two festivals of the 15th edition of International Documentary Film Festival Vienna (Ethnocineca) in Austria, from May 6-13, and the 18th International Documentary Film Festival of Ukraine, which will be held from March 26 to April 4.

Directed by Mehdi Zamanpour-Kiasari, ‘Asak’ (small hand-mill in the Persian language) is about the life of a blind 80-year-old man living in southern Iran, who’s been gifted with the knowledge of interpreting dreams. He goes to the mountains and finds the rock he needs by touching and tasting them, and earns a living by making and selling utensils, ifilmtv.com reported.

The film has attended several international festivals, including the 17th Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in the US and the International Golden Saffron Documentary Film Festival in Turkey. The latter brought the director the best film award.

According to the official website of Ethnocineca, “It is the largest Austrian festival dedicated exclusively to documentary and ethnographic films.”
