The Persian Gulf Pro League side Tractor named former Iranian international striker Rasoul Khatibi as the new manager.
Khatibi, 42, put pen to the one-year-and-a-half contract with the Tabriz-based club after parting ways with Aluminium Arak.
Khatibi who won promotion with Aluminium to the top flight last term led the central Iranian side to an impressive sixth place in the table midway through the current season – one spot above Tractor with a superior goal difference.
The Tabriz-born coach will take over from Masoud Shojaei, the Tractor midfielder who was given the caretaker role on the bench after Alireza Mansourian was sacked with only five games into the new campaign.
In his early months in the new job, Khatibi will be tasked with steering Tractor in the upcoming AFC Champions League season, starting April 14, where the Hazfi Cup champion is pitted in Group B, alongside Uzbekistan’s Pakhtakor, Sharjah of the UAE, and one of Iraq’s Air Force AC or Al Wehda of Saudi Arabia, which will battle it out for a group spot in the playoffs.
