Rouhani calls for expansion of century-old relations with Japan

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for the expansion of political and economic relations with Japan, saying that constant cooperation between Tehran and Tokyo signifies their resolve to ensure international stability and security.

The Iranian president on Tuesday sent separate messages to Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Emperor Naruhito to congratulate them on the national holiday celebrating the birthday of the reigning emperor, according to Tasnim News Agency.

In the congratulatory message to the Japanese emperor, Rouhani expressed hope for the promotion of century-old ties between the two nations.

In the other letter, Rouhani described the growing interaction between Iran and Japan amid the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and the consecutive political and security developments in the world as a sign of their determination and efforts to strengthen cooperation in various fields with the purpose of ensuring world stability and security.

In a meeting with Japan’s new ambassador to Tehran in December 2020, President Rouhani expressed hope that the new conditions would result in the presence of more Japanese companies in Iran for the development of national scientific and technological projects.

Rouhani has also stressed the need for the release of Iran’s financial assets held in Tokyo and for the rapid implementation of the joint agreements.
