First National Conference on Fars Province’s Biodiversity opens in Shiraz

The First National Conference on Fars Province’s Biodiversity opened in Shiraz on Tuesday, coinciding with World Wildlife Day, in cooperation with Shiraz University and Fars Province’s Department of Environment.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, director General of the Fars Province Department of Environment Hamid Zoharabi said, “We are planning to discuss the importance of biodiversity and its impacts on other components of life such as culture, community, literature, art, climate change and COVID-19 pandemic,” IRNA reported.

Hamidreza Esmaeili, the scientific secretary of the conference, said for his part that various subjects such as different species of living organisms in Iran, their importance, education and biodiversity, the impact of cultural and political issues on biodiversity and health issue including the spread of coronavirus, will be reviewed during the two-day conference.

He noted that more than 160 articles have been submitted to the secretariat of the conference, pointing out that some articles will be delivered online and some others will be presented in the form of pre-recorded lectures and virtual posters.

March 3 is World Wildlife Day with the theme: "Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet," as a way to highlight the central role of forests, forest species and ecosystems services in sustaining the livelihoods of hundreds of millions of people in global community.
