In an address to a press conference on Tuesday, the Health Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat-Lari said the total number of people testing positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran exceeded 1,648,000, following the detection of 8,495 new cases, Tasnim News Agency reported.
Of the new cases detected in the past 24 hours, 784 patients were admitted to hospitals, she added.
At least 1,406,800 patients have so far either recovered from the coronavirus infection or been discharged from hospitals across the country, the spokeswoman added.
She put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 60,267, saying the disease took the lives of 86 patients over the past 24 hours.
Among those undergoing treatment in the country’s medical centers at present, 3,738 coronavirus patients are in critical condition, Lari noted.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 115 million, with the death toll exceeding 2.55 million.
