Three Iranian films to vie at US’ Santa Barbara festival

Three Iranian films will compete at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF) in California, from March 31 to April 10.

The Iranian-Afghan documentary, ‘The Forbidden Strings,’ directed by Hassan Nouri, will be screened at the Documentary Competition section of the American event.

In addition to Nouri’s film, two Iranian short films, ‘Fox Shadow,’ directed by Noushin Meraji and ‘Identibye,’ directed by Sajjad Shah-Hatami, have also been picked to participate in this year’s edition of the SBIFF, reported.

It tells the story of four young Afghans living in Iran. They spend their days working, and their nights rehearsing their music.

They have a burning passion for performing in front of an audience. After about six months of practice, they find an opportunity to go on stage in Afghanistan.

Their trip back to their motherland, which they have never seen before, is not easy and the country is not safe for them.

‘The Forbidden Strings’ has already been screened at a number of global events including Cinéma vérité in Iran and One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival in the Czech Republic.

The SBIFF not only is a venue for screening independent films, but a chance for filmmakers to educate themselves, as the event offers many free educational programs.
