According to Mohsen Tarztalab, most the investment was made during President Hassan Rouhani’s terms, the credit of which was provided by the National Development Fund, IRNA reported.
He pointed to the 73 percent share of the private sector in the launch of large thermal power plants in the last five years and continued, “This figure has grown by about 60 percent compared to that of the preceding five years."
Currently, 478 thermal power plants are operating across Iran which include both gas-fired and combined-cycle power plants.
Iran’s total power generation capacity stands at about 85,000 MW, more than 90 percent of which is supplied by thermal power plants.
Over two-thirds of Iran’s thermal power plants are owned and operated by the private sector and are currently generating nearly 67 percent of the country’s thermal power.
