Karzai made the remarks during the online Tehran Dialogue Forum 2021 which was held by the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS), affiliated with Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, IRNA reported.
The webinar was attended by senior Iranian and foreign participants who discussed major issues related to the present situation in the Persian Gulf, Central Asia, the Caucasia and Afghanistan.
It was the second meeting of Tehran Dialogue Forum and was held via a videoconference due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh had previously said that the forum was to provide a platform for consultations among high-ranking political officials and heads of research centers about regional conditions in the Persian Gulf region, Central Asia, the Caucasus and Afghanistan.
Another speaker of the event was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Mohammad Hanif Atmar who said Kabul welcomes solving regional problems through dialogs.
He added that Afghanistan has been fighting terrorism and trying not to become the terrorists’ base in the region.
Iran has repeatedly announced its support for the national peace talks in Afghanistan and for the participation of all ethnic Afghan groups in the future of their country in a completely peaceful manner.
Tehran hosted a high-ranking delegation of Taliban headed by its top political leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in late January.
In a meeting with the Taliban’s leader and his entourage, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on January 31 that Tehran supports the formation of an Islamic government in neighboring Afghanistan, which represents people from all political groups and factions of the country.
