Leader grants amnesty to 1,849 Iranian inmates

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has pardoned or commuted the sentences of 1,849 Iranian prisoners on national and religious occasions.

Ayatollah Khamenei granted amnesty on Sunday on the occasion of Farvadin 12 (April 1), which on the Iranian solar Hijri calendar marks the anniversary of the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979 and also the 15th of the lunar month of Shaban, which marks the birthday anniversary of the 12th and final Shiite Imam Mahdi (AS), IRNA reported.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the two happy events,

Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raisie, in a letter to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, had requested the Leader’s clemency for prisoners with specific conditions based on the Paragraph 11 of the Article 110 of the country’s Constitution.

Article 110 of the Constitution grants the Leader the right to pardon or reduce the sentences of convicts upon a recommendation from the head of the Judiciary.
