Iran ready to host D-8 Youth Summit: Sport minister

Iran’s Minister of Sport and Youth Masoud Soltanifar in the first summit of the youth of the Developing-8 (D-8) countries on Monday voiced Tehran’s readiness to hold a meeting of the selected youth of the D-8 member states.

"You know that Iran has been facing the most severe sanctions for years, but today it has made significant progress in industry, medicine, engineering, nuclear technology, nanotechnology, new technologies, and knowledge-based industries," said Soltanifar in his address to the D-8 Youth Summit which was held online and hosted by Bangladesh, iranpress.com reported.

Established in 1997, the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, also known as Developing-8 consists of 8 developing Muslims countries– Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.

The Minister voiced Tehran’s readiness “to host a meeting in which the selected youth of the D-8 member countries will present their ideas, creativity, and initiatives to build a better world, and I suggest 2022 that Iran be a host for thoughtful, dynamic and creative youths of D-8."

The 10th D-8 Summit will be held virtually on April 8 in Bangladesh aiming to seek more investment and trade from the member states.

According to Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr. AK Abdul Momen, the theme of the first summit of the D-8 youth – “Partnership for a Transformative World: Harnessing the Power of Youth and Technology” – was chosen emphasizing innovative potential of youths, theindependentbd.com wrote.
