Zarif in Turkmenistan on final stage of regional tour

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan where he exchanged views on issues of mutual interest with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow on Thursday.

Zarif is in Turkmenistan on the last leg of his four-nation tour to Central Asia which has previously took him to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan respectively, IRNA reported.

During his meeting with the president of Turkmenistan, the Iranian top diplomat described various aspects of Tehran-Ashgabat relations in political, economic, and cultural areas.

He further emphasized the importance of promotion of bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.

Supporting the two countries' relations in different fields, President Berdimuhamedow also stressed Ashgabat's determination to develop cooperation between the two nations.

Earlier in the day, Zarif wrote in a tweet that on the third leg of his tour in Kazakhstan he had “substantive and fruitful meetings with President Tokayev and FM Tileuberdi.”

He further said that Iran and Kazakhstan share many objectives regarding regional stability and global nuclear disarmament.

“Our two countries share many objectives on regional stability and global nuclear disarmament,” Zarif said stressing, ““As always, our neighbors are our priority.”
