Iran’s Mohammad Mohammadi Barimanlou secured the first spot for the country at the judo competitions of the Tokyo Olympics, beginning in Japan in July.

The Iranian, who finished fifth in the men’s -73kg contests at the Asian & Oceania Judo Championships in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, last week, was handed the continental quota through the latest world ranking released by the International Judo Federation (IJF), Mehr News Agency reported.

The result in Bishkek earned the Iranian 126 points, leaving him in the 56th spot of the Olympic qualification ranking, first in Asia.

According to IJF rules, the top 22 of the ranking in each weight class, as well as the first place of each continent will be eligible to take part at the Games.
