A total number of 11, 739 books were gifted to the National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) since the beginning of the new Iranian year (March 21, 2021), a library official said.

Fattaneh Torkashvand added that the received books will be reviewed and after completing the library’s reservoir, the surplus will be transferred to charities, schools, colleges and libraries in remote and underprivileged areas across the country, IRNA reported.

The name of the people who donated the books will appear on the library’s website.

The NLAI is home to over 40,000 rare manuscripts with some dating back 700 years.

Established in 1937, the library has been merged with the Islamic Revolution Cultural Documentation Organization (IRCDO) to form the National Library and Archives of Iran.
