The official put the country’s total non-oil trade in the said 12 months at $73 billion, with a total weight of 145.7 million tons, IRNA reported.
Iran exported 112 million tons of non-oil goods during last Iranian year, while some 34.4 million tons of commodities worth $38.4 billion were imported into the country, he noted.
Iraq with 25.67 million tons ($7.44 billion), the UAE with 15.4 million tons ($4.6 billion), Turkey with 8.1 million tons ($2.53 billion), and Afghanistan with 7.8 million tons ($2.3 billion) of imports from Iran were the country’s top export destinations among neighboring countries during this period, Latifi said.
Meanwhile, , the UAE with $9.7 billion, Turkey with $4.4 billion and Russia with $1.07 billion were the top exporting nations to the Islamic Republic among neighbors, according to the official.
First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri has called for developing non-oil exports as one of the ways of boosting production.
Emphasizing that 15 neighboring countries and countries such as China, India, and Eurasian members should be targeted as the most important export destinations of the country, Jahangiri said in August 2020.
He called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant agencies to strengthen economic diplomacy and focus on these export destination countries to provide the necessary infrastructure for the development of exports to these nations.
