Ukraine film ‘We Are Here. We Are Close’ to compete at Fajr festival

The Ukrainian film, ‘We Are Here. We Are Close,’ directed by prominent director Roman Balayan, is set to compete at the 38th Fajr International Film Festival (FIff) in Iran, from May 26-June 2.

Balayan is a Ukrainian-Armenian film director who considers himself a student of the prominent international director, Sergei Parajanov, ifilmtv.com reported.

‘We Are Here. We Are Close’ tells the story of Alex, an experienced surgeon, who makes a mistake in the diagnosis of his seven-year-old godson. The boy dies on the operating table.

The film is about “how misdiagnosis, not necessarily in medical terms, complicates and corrupts lives but can also bring the grace of enlightenment”.

The 2020 edition of the FIff was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Since its establishment in 1982, the Fajr Film Festival has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

The 39th edition of the national version of the festival was held from January 31 to February 10.
