Uzbekistan, Iran, Turkmenistan hold trilateral railways meeting

Representatives of Uzbekistan, Iran, and Turkmenistan railway organizations held a trilateral meeting on Wednesday through a videoconference to discuss issues related to the increase of transportation capacities.

The delegations of railway organization of the three countries explored avenues for expanding practical cooperation, reported Mehr News Agency.

The trio parties agreed to increase the volume of cargo transportation through acceleration of transit of wagons and return of vacant wagons belonging to O'zbekiston Temir Yo'llari Company from Iran to Uzbekistan.

The participants also attached special significance to the organizing transit of pilot train through Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman” corridor.

They discussed the issue of a meeting held on May 21, 2020 between heads of railway organizations of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran by fully observing of health protocols and guidelines due to the spread of the global coronavirus pandemic.

On Sunday, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami announced that the first section of Zahedan-Chabahar railway will be inaugurated by June.

The minister added that with the implementation of bilateral and multilateral agreements, the country has increased rail transit by 31 percent.

In recent years, for the first time Iran has signed rail agreements with 12 countries, including Armenia, Ukraine, India, Russia and Uzbekistan, Eslami said.
