The Iranian Defense Ministry has employed some of its helicopters to contain wildfires in the country’s southern and southwestern provinces, a commander said.

Director of the Defense Ministrys Aerial Firefighting Center Mohammad Mehdi Noori added the military helicopters have performed several sorties over the past days to provide assistance in curbing wildfires that have broken out in Zagros woodlands in a number of the countrys southern and southwestern provinces, Tasnim News Agency reported.

He said a rise in temperature has started fires in the provinces of Fars and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad.

Following requests from the Forests, Range and Watershed Management Organization and the Crisis Management Organization of Iran, the Defense Ministry has deployed three helicopters to the crisis-hit regions, Noori noted.

Iranian military forces play a leading role in the rescue and relief efforts during natural disasters in the country. The units of Irans Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps have saved civilianslives in many incidents, such as floods and earthquakes.
