Iran’s four-month crude steel output hits 10m tons: WSA

Iranian steelmakers produced 10 million tons of crude steel during the first four months of 2021, marking a 9.6 percent rise compared to the corresponding figure for 2020, which was 9.1 million tons.

According to figures released by the World Steel Association (WSA) on Friday, Iranian smelters cast 2.5 million tons of crude steel in April, showing a 6.4 percent increase compared to the figure for the same month of 2020, which was 2.3 million tons.

China topped the list of crude steel producers in the fourth month of 2021, with an output of 97.9 million tons, while Iran stood at 10th place.

India, Japan, the United States, Russia, South Korea, Germany, Turkey and Brazil with 8.3 million tons, 7.8 million tons, 6.9 million tons, 6.5 million tons, 5.9 million tons, 3.4 million, 3.3 million tons and 3.1 million tons, respectively, were listed in second to ninth places, the report said.

Global steel production in April amounted to 169.5 million tons, showing a 23.3 percent rise compared to the corresponding figure of 2020, which was 137.4 million tons.

Iran produced over 29 million tons of crude steel in 2020, according to figures released by WSA in January.

According to the Islamic Republics Vision Plan, the countrys total steel production capacity is to hit 55 million tons a year by 2025, with export figures expected to reach 10-15 million tons.

The World Steel Association (WSA) is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world. WSA members represent approximately 85 percent of the worlds steel producers, including over 150 steel producers, with nine of the 10 largest steel companies, national and regional steel industry associations and steel research institutes.
