Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated his counterparts on Ethiopia National Day and Azerbaijan’s Republic Day, calling for the expansion of relations.
In his message to Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde, Rouhani extended his congratulations to the African state’s government and people, expressing hope that concurrent with the 50th anniversary of the implementation of their treaty of amity, the two countries would further use their considerable capacities to develop their relations, IRNA reported.
The Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front overthrew the Derg socialist military regime in 1991. The event, known as Ethiopia National Day, is annually commemorated on May 28.
He wished health and success for the Ethiopian president and people.
In the message to Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, Rouhani expressed his heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of the Republic Day to the Azerbaijani government and people, describing Baku as Tehran’s friend and brother.
Azerbaijan declared independence from Russian Empire in Tiflis on May 28, 1918.
He gave the assurance that inspired by and in view of their rich cultures and common historical background, Iran and Azerbaijan will further improve their relations.
Rouhani stressed that as friendly neighbors with numerous historical, cultural and religious links, the two countries have displayed a high level of relations developed on the basis of good neighborliness since Azerbaijan’s independence.
“I have no doubt that the two states will move toward the expansion of political, economic and cultural relations and ensuring peace and stability in the region inspired by their rich cultures, common historical background and based on mutual understanding, in line with their people’s will.
He wished Aliyev and the people of the country health, success and prosperity.
