Providing the latest statistics on the coronavirus infection, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said on Thursday that over 4,035,300 Iranians have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine so far, according to a report by Tasnim News Agency.
Sima Sadat Lari also said the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 2,945,000 after the detection of 9,657 new cases since yesterday.
She noted that the pandemic has claimed 170 lives from Wednesday to Thursday, while the overall coronavirus death toll in Iran stands at 80,658.
More than 2,508,900 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, she added.
Among those undergoing treatment at present, 3,924 are being kept in the Intensive Care Units of medical centers because of critical health conditions, the spokeswoman said.
Lari said more than 20.31 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 172 million and the death toll has exceeded 3.7 million.
Eighth batch of Russian vaccines delivered
The eighth batch of Russian Corona vaccine, Sputnik V, including 100,000 doses, was delivered to the Iranian Embassy in Moscow on Wednesday and will arrive in Tehran on Thursday.
According to IRNA, Iran's Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali said that so far 820,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccines have been delivered to Iran.
Iran and Russia signed a contract in February, 2020, for purchasing two million doses of Sputnik V vaccines, and late last month too, another contract was signed for buying 60 million doses to vaccinate 30 million Iranians. The Sputnik V consignments are to send to Iran from June to December, 2021.
Effectiveness of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccines has been approved by the health ministries of 60 countries with total population of three billion people. More than 30 countries have already began vaccinating their nations with this vaccine.
The Russian officials have announced that the test of the Sputnik V vaccine on 3.8 million people has worked positive up to 97.6%.
