Iran will resume their Volleyball Nations League (VNL) campaign in Rimini, Italy, on Tuesday, taking on Australia in their opening fixture of Week 4 of the preliminary round.
Russian head coach Vladimir Alekno will be hoping to see his team back to the winning ways against the bottom side of the 16-team table, who are yet to register a victory in the competition.
A run of five successive wins for Alekno’s men came to an end with a couple of five-set defeats against Serbia and Germany in their latest outings.
Despite the consecutive losses, Iran, having won 5-in-9, is sixth in the table, remaining well in contention with a top-four finish and a place at the VNL Finals, starting June 26.
Tuesday’s game for Iran will be followed by two massive contests against leaders Brazil and debutants Slovenia, who are fourth in the table with an impressive record of only two defeats in nine.
Iran will face France and Poland, and Argentina in the final week.
