Iran Greco-Roman head coach Mohammad Bana announced the five-man squad representing the country at the wrestling competitions of Tokyo Olympics.

Alireza Nejati, who sealed an Olympic quota for Iran by winning a bronze at the 2019 World Championships, will compete at the men’s 60kg weight class.

Mohammadreza Geraei, who won the Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in April, will take part in the 67kg contests.

Geraei will be joined by his elder brother Mohammad-Ali, a two-time world bronze medalist in 2017 and 2019, who will be hoping to emulate his international feat in the 77kg competitions in Tokyo.

Mohammad-Hadi Saravi, also a winner in April’s qualifiers, will battle for the 97kg glory, while Amin Mirzazadeh, an Asian gold medalist in 2020, will represent Iran in the 130kg division.

Iran will have no wrestler in the 87kg contests, after Nasser Alizadeh failed to reach the final at the at the world qualifiers in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, in May.

Cuba will be the only country to send a full squad to the Games, with Iran and Russia settling for a five-man team.

USA will have four Greco-Roman wrestlers in Tokyo.
