Iran’s High Council for Human Rights took to Twitter on Sunday to accuse the US of issuing sanctions waivers on the coronavirus-related items after Iran made its own COVID-19 vaccines.

Over 82,000 Iranians have died of the coronavirus and now, 16 months after the beginning of the spread of the virus and after Iran made its own vaccine, the US issues sanctions waivers for transaction of coronavirus-related items, it tweeted, IRNA reported.

It added the US has imposed sanctions on the transactions of such items the sanctioning of which is against international law even at the time of war.

“The Iranian nation's demand is to remove the illegal sanctions and punish those who imposed them," it said.

The US on Thursday issued guidance easing the way for delivery of products such as face masks, ventilators and vaccines to combat the coronavirus pandemic to heavily sanctioned countries like Iran, Venezuela and Syria, according to Reuters.

The guidance is in contrast with the previous remarks by the US officials that humanitarian items were exempted from Washington’s sanctions.
