Iran’s Health Ministry on Sunday reported 134 fatalities from COVID-19, bringing the total death toll to 83,845.

The ministry’s spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said that the total number of people testing positive for COVID-19 in the country surpassed 3,167,740 after the detection of 9,758 new cases from Saturday to Sunday, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Lari added that over 2,835,900 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran.

Among those undergoing treatment at present, 3,190 are being kept in intensive care units (ICUs) of medical centers because of critical health conditions, Lari said.

The spokeswoman also said more than 23.3 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far, and over 4.42 million people have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

President Hassan Rouhani said on Saturday that the trend of the spread of the coronavirus is declining in the country.

Addressing the country’s coronavirus taskforce, Rouhani noted that the country is not facing a new wave of the coronavirus. However, he said the situation in some provinces such as Bushehr, Hormuzgan, Sistan and Baluchestan and Kerman is different.
